Open Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral Position in Inner Ear and Brain Development, Regeneration, and Function

The laboratory of Dr. Donna Martin is recruiting postdoctoral research fellows interested in studying the underlying molecular, genetic, and epigenetic mechanisms of mammalian inner ear and brain development and function. The University of Michigan is a vibrant college town with a world-class research community. Our highly collaborative group explores developmental mechanisms in Genetic forms of deafness and vestibular disorders, including CHARGE syndrome and Connexin26 as well as prevention and restoration related to environmental inner ear lesions. Projects involve genomic and molecular analysis of developing and mature inner ear tissues in the mouse and functional studies of mature animals. The goals of our research are to define roles for the chromodomain protein CHD7 (mutated in CHARGE) in cellular proliferation, differentiation, and fate, and to explore contributions of Connexin26 to hearing and balance. Next-generation sequencing approaches to explore gene expression and regulation are also used in the lab. Desirable candidates will have an MD and/or PhD in genetics, molecular biology, neuroscience, or a related biomedical science field. We are especially interested in reviewing applications from US Citizens and permanent residents who are training grant-eligible and/or who come from underrepresented backgrounds including African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaskan Natives, Native Hawaiians or other Pacific Islanders, or persons with a disability.

Principal Responsibilities:

To study structure and function of developing and mature inner ear mouse tissues using mouse genetics, expression analysis, histological and surgical approaches, and physiological assays.
